BEIJING: A professor from a local university in Beijing was charged for illegal gambling after he reportedly won over tens of millions using a technique he developed that is the "winning formula" for Baccarat.
He and two others raised 3 million and let one of them gamble in casinos in Macau while he and another partner dictate the betting via telephone, and won over 10 million Yuan. Last Saturday, Beijing Times reported the incident at the end of December 2008, Professor Zhang Xing and his friends, Wang and Li went to Guangzhou in preparation to go over Macau to gamble but later on he and his friend Li was not allow to leave the country. Eventually they decided to let Wang to go over while Zhang and Li will “remote control” the bets from Guangzhou.
Guangzhou police sources said, Professor Zhang who has a PhD was the one who decided on the betting strategies due to his “Baccarat” winning method.
Wang went to gamble in Macau and relay via phone the situation of the table to Zhang and Li. Zhang then calculates the probability of the next deal and then instructs Wang to bet accordingly and amazingly they won a total of 11.3 million Yuan.
The 3 was immediately detained by police in Guangzhou and was said to be involved in illegal gambling and confiscated all their winnings due to their inability to produce the receipts of the winnings. The professor refused to accept the sentencing and tookthe Guangzhou police to the Beijing court. The court has uphold the decision and ruled against the professor.

（中國‧北京16日訊）中國首都北京有一名大學教授，竟然研究出玩“百家樂”的必贏方法，並贏得逾千萬元（港幣，下同），但後來被控非法賭博罪成。
他和另兩人集資300萬後，由其中一人到澳門賭場豪賭，他則和另一人在廣州用電話遙控下注，共贏得逾千萬元。北京《京華時報》上週六報導，案發於2008年12月底，北京某大學的張姓教授及姓王和姓李的朋友一起到廣州，準備到澳門賭博，但張、李2人因簽證問題無法出境，但他們仍讓王單獨赴澳，張、李2人則在廣州遙控王投注。
廣州警方的消息說，具博士銜頭的張教授似乎有玩“百家樂”的必贏方法，投注策略都由他決定。
姓王的到澳門後進入賭場，以電話方式將賭桌上的情況告知張、李2人，張即計算下一次開牌幾率然後指揮王下注，共贏了1千130萬元。
但3人隨即被廣州警方拘留，廣州警方認定他們非法賭博，沒收賭本並追繳千萬贏款。這名教授不服判罰將廣州公安局告上北京法院，法院日前裁定教授敗訴。
